Needs: the gap between what is and what should be. Health programs and interventions are designed to address a need in an identified population. Health needs are often defined as the gap that exists between the current state of health and the desired state. Health needs commonly relate to one or more of the social or physical determinants of health (e. g. homeless shelters and subsidized housing) A needs of assessment can be thought as a systematic process to understand the needs of a population in the context of a social system, so that effective actions can be planned to address those needs. A needs of assessment is a systemic process used to identify the needs (or gaps) between what is currently occurring in an organization and what should be happening. Plan and deliver the most effective services to those in greatest need.
