Document Summary

Early photography: the camera obscura it comprised a room with a small hole in the middle of a wall. Light would pass through this small hole and show an image of the outside landscape on the opposing wall. In the 19th century, the irst printed photographs were invented. The irst method was called daguerrotypes which were made by exposing light into a polished silver plate varnished with chemicals. The second method was calotype; it was closer to what we now know as print photography. Paper coated in chemicals was exposed to light and created a negative image; by placing it against another coated paper it would produce the positive. Three elements that make the photograph: (always have to have these) Studium: interest in analyzing the photograph and the elements contained in it. Punctum: a deep meaning that speaks to us individually, and which is consequently remembered.
