Document Summary

Missed from last week: climax- highest note of a melody. Re-watched end of last week"s video, concentrating on keyboards (piano vs. harpsichord) Music usually follows art forms chronologically: medieval- 400-1400, renaissance- 1400-1600, baroque- 1600-1750, classical- 1750-1800, romantic- 1800-1900, 20th century- 1900+ Going back to greek and roman empires. New way of measuring time: rather than religion, but in more human achievements. Eras start moving away from the sacred and more towards the secular. Renaissance became more secular, appealing more to the human senses. Lots of inventions, most importantly the printing press. More rapid spread of information, rising information as info is shared. More people have more access to printed music. People felt they could shape their own destinies. Felt empowered to do more than one thing (renaissance man) Not considered top of your game" if you didn"t have some sort of musical training.
