In music this was a sort of pre-romantic stage. The empfindsamer stil (sensitive style)(on quiz) of c. p. e bach emphasized the performer and composer being moved in order to move the listener. Emotion became real in contrast to the baroque rhetoric of emotions: restless and dramatic, moving music, passionate. C. p. e bach"s music was often eccentric and favoured fantasies in order to create this exaggerated sense of emotional connection between performer and listener (c. p. e. Bach fantasy in c minor: eccentric , fantasy-like , loose, unstructured , almost improv. Franz joseph haydn"s music from this period reflects more refined and strict strain of sturnm and drang (franz haydn: symphony no. 45, first movement: less flightly or eccentric than c. p. e bach, still has sense of heaviness and emotional power.
