The u. s. then became the home for some of the most significant musical advances after the war. French composer and conductor who is an important influence at the darmstadt music festival in germany. Darmstadt is a home for many of the most radical musical experiments in the 20th c. Championed total serialism, in which every element of the music is governed by serial processes. Famously wrote the article shoenberg is dead in 1951, in which he suggested that schoenberg hadn"t gone far enough with the implications of serial technique. After wwii, many composers began looking for ways to expand schoenberg"s technique, and looked to webern for inspiration more than schoenberg.
