Specialized layer of cells around blastocyte becomes the placenta: produce progesterone to support pregnancy at 7 wks and takes over function from corpus luteum at 10wks. Placenta function: endocrine organ, produce hormones that help in growth and deve of fetus and direct changes in woman(cid:495)s body to prepare for birth and lactation.
