Good for the environment (singer 1980: harms of vegetarianism: Denies the satisfaction of trivial pleasures of taste, Regan: rejects singer"s view because it violates the inherent rights of a living being: we are under a moral obligation to stop purchasing meat (regan 2004, 395) Regardless of the effects of this on farmers, meat-packers and wholesalers. They voluntarily chose to be involved in that business and for that reason they do not have a claim against being made worse-off. Caveat: lifeboat: the dog should be eaten because the death of the animal will cause less harm than the death of a human. Rowlands: contract view, animals fall within the scope of moral standing.
