Astronomers deal with scales and distance unlike any found in. Used as a time machine , we can see things in space during its other sciences distant past: to learn the universe at it"s earliest times, we look into. Human brain is capable of striving to understand the entire galaxies and stars billions of light years away universe within which we live. Astronomy was studied to gauge passage of time: motion of sun captured on sundial, star motion also used for time. Moon phases tell us passage of a month: full moon allowed hunters to go out late at night, opposite with new moon. Important for navigation: used by egyptians to track when nile would flood, if you were in middle of ocean, no way of knowing where you are except stars. Navigation (gps satellites), time keeping, how subject we are to impacts from comets, Provides technological spinoffs and devices to improve life.
