Document Summary

A sac of pericardium: membranous fluid-filled sac, reduce friction due to heart"s constant contraction. Pericardium and heart surface friction: measured in the middle of the two, fixed to the diaphragm. Apex of the heart is the bottom of the heart: identify the major components of the heart (12) All arteries and veins attach to the base of the heart: superior vena cava. Receives blood from upper body (head and neck) Sends blood into the ventricle through a valve: right/left atrium. Left: mitral (bicuspid) valve: right/left ventricle. Left: to aorta (to body) through aortic valve: inferior vena cava, pulmonary veins, pulmonary artery. Sends to left atrium: aorta receives blood from left ventricle. Between right atrium and ventricle: tricuspid valve, aortic valve, mistral (bicuspid) valve. In order to generate the larger force and pressure, the muscle must be larger and thicker. Right ventricle -> pulmonary artery -> lung ->pulmonary vein -> left atrium.
