Document Summary

Women, politics and power-introduction to women in politics. In 2003 rwanda had 26%of the women voted into the government system and they continue to have one of the top female equality when it comes to women in parliament. This can be attributed to the number of men killed or imprisoned after the genocide. Arguments for women"s equal representation in politics fall into one of three categories: formal, descriptive, substantive. Female politicians may not want to act for women-e. g. margret. They may not be able to act for women. Female politicians of a particular race, ethnicity, class or caste may not be able to act for all women. It is useful for women to be in politics because it increases the chance of women"s issues being brought up during decision making and women in politics can serve as role models for other women. To understand women in politics, we must understand power, gender, and the interaction between the two: power.
