Document Summary

Theories an idea, or a conceptual model, that is designed to explain existing facts and make predictions about new facts that might be discovered e. g. charles darwin"s theory of evolution and newton"s theory of gravity. Hypothesis testable prediction about processes that can be observed and measured (educated guess) The scientific method focuses on verifiability and objectivity and is sometimes referred to as empiricism (the gaining of knowledge through observable facts and experiments) Reliability any experiment/research that gives a result should be able to be replicated with the same result. Verifiable a good scientific hypothesis or experimental result can be tested by other people. Objectivity based on observable phenomena and is uninfluenced by emotions or personal points of view e. g. compare the redness of an apple to a fixed colour scale rather than trying to describe it. Validity the degree to which the procedure actually measures what it claims to measure.
