Document Summary
A big body needs a big brain because more neurons are required, but this doesn"t necessarily mean the bigger brains are smarter Cerebrospinal fluid (csf) - in ventricles and surrounds the entire brain (like a bath) White - myelinated fatty tissue/axons (faster transmission of nerve impulses) Grey - unmyelinated nerve tissue (slower transmission of nerve impulses) Phrenology - first effort to locate where things were going on in a systematic way. Equipotentiality - any part of the brain can do anything; ex. If you damage one part of the brain the rest can make up for it. Brodmann areas - numbered similar parts of the brain (we still use this); this suggests that the brain is doing different things in different parts. Big issue in past was whether the brain consisted of discrete areas with specialized functions or was a single general processor.
