De nition of memory is having all three components. Mostly we encode the contents of consciousness. Encoding: our model: if memory wrong, perception could be incorrect, chunking. Supermarket: get cart, shop aisles, chaser: get cart, shop aisles, leave > false memories. Using knowledge to ll in gaps, but it can sometimes get ahead of you. Tricks to ll in missing part of things, but can sometimes create problems. Levels of processing: no river, mountain or lake will stop me from reaching home. Semantic processing: what geographic bodies: the more we work with/ processing information. Emotion is good for memory: marker of things we ought to try and remember better. Putting things together to make: method of loci. Memory palace > leaving different things to remember at different places. Some things don"t help: deliberate encoding. Just trying to memorize something, won"t make you remember more than normal: repetition. #1 cause of forgetting > you didn"t pay attention in the rst place.
