The social brain: an idea that explains the evolution of intelligence. Baumrind: authoritative: unlikely to use physical discipline and will explain the reasons behind the rules they lay out. Regardless of them setting rm rules and upholding them, they grant children a high degree of freedom w/in set boundaries: authoritarian: discipline through the use of threats and punishment and are more likely to use physical discipline. Praise obedience as a virtue and expect their children to follow rules w/o explanation: permissive: believe children learn best on their own w/o structure imposed on them by adults. Allow children a great deal of freedom: rejecting-neglectful: no limits set for children, don"t monitor activities and may discouraged them. Imprinting: a form of rapid learning through which the newborn organism forms a rapid and powerful bond to its mother, imprinting ensures the newborn will remain close to its main source of safety and nourishment its mother.
