Document Summary

Self-concept (cognitive): an individual"s perception of themselves including their knowledge, feelings and ideas about themselves. Used as a basis for how we describe ourselves. Schematicity: the importance of particular self-schemas to one"s self concept. Important= schematic (honesty), not important= aschematic (academic importance). Affects how we behave, our memory of events and how we view others (judge others harshly for schematic-inconsistent actions). Although we all like to feel like we are introspective and make sound decisions based on weighing the pros and cons, this may not be the case sometimes. Yes, we make mistakes and have baises (affective forecasting and self-perception. ) Predicting how you will feel in the future, we are not good judges of what will make us happy. We have trouble seeing through the filter of now. Self-perception theory: when internal cues are difficult to interpret, people sometimes gauge how they feel based upon their own behaviour.
