Document Summary
Differential approach: an approach in psychology devoted to tests and measures of individual differences in various psychological properties, including people"s abilities to solve problems. Francis galton: believes intelligence is hereditary, and based on biology and other biologically based phenomenon (eg. head size) Factor analysis: statistical analysis that examines all of the correlations between all of the items and determines if any of them are highly correlated with each other. "the indifference of the indicator" : test content and format does not affect test score of general intelligence. (eg. People who did good on math also did well on vocabularies test) therefore, all measures of intelligence showed a correlation, they all must reflect a common factor of intelligence. Spearman: correlate different intelligence tests with each other. Galton: try to correlate more general descriptions of intelligence with physical factors (unsuccessful) Believes intelligence is a collection of higher order mental abilities. Environmental factors are more important than genetic (unlike golton)
