Characteristics are passed from parents to offspring. The child is getting habituated, looks at the stimulus for a few seconds and then looks away. To be habituated: 1st she has to see, 2nd she has to be able to control where her eye aim, 3rd most impressive she has to recognize the repeated object. Habituation shows us that this baby"s memory is already functioning.
