Comprehension: information can only be communicated if both the sender and the receiver understand what"s going on. Semanticity: the extent to which a language can use symbols to transmit meaningful messages. Human language is semantic, no matter what language or idiom is used. So are languages such as sign language or braille. Generativity is when language has to combine a limited number of words and a few rules to convey many ideas. A form of communication must have the property of generativity. We use a limited number of works and a few rules to combine words into a virtually unlimited number of sentences. The boy hit the ball and the ball hit the boy contain the same words but have very different meanings. You don"t have to hear the sentence before to know what it means.
