Clinically signiicant: signiicant in intensity or duraion that the paient would beneit from treatment. Factors contribuing to psychological disorders: biological ( geneic disposiion, sociocultural (family history, living environment, psychological (internal conlicts) Dsm-iv: diagnosic and staisical manual of mental disorders. Include: sympions, eiology(origin/cause of symptoms) and prognosis (persist over ime without treatment) Categorical views of disorder: regarding diferent mental condiions as diferent types, rather than degrees: down syndrome, dimensional views of disorder: normal and abnormal disincion is a mater of degree, disorder=extreme version of normal thoughts, ex. ptsd. Diathesis-stress model: how interacion between our gene and our environment can cause a mental disorder. 2 models used to understand disorders: medical model: using medical condiions to think about psychological condiions.
