Document Summary
Proximate factors: immediate causes and mechanisms of the behavior. Ex: ultimate: male songbirds sing to attract females and defend territory from other males. Proximate: increase daylight in spring leads to increased testosterone production, activating brain center that controls singing. Nativism: from the genes, born with it o. Certain ablilities are hard wired or innate, present at birth. Empiricism: from the environment, gained through experience: born as blank slates and all behaviour results from individual experiences. Genes: regions of chromosomes that encode particular proteins. Locus: point on chromosome where particular gene is located. Homozygous/heterozygous: genes at same locus are same/different o. Ex: eye colour genes, one blue allele and one brown allele = heterozygous. Monozygotic twins (identical): developed from one fertilized egg, divides into two and develop independently into two separate beings, genetic material is identical. Dizygotic twins (fraternal): twins develop from two different eggs, fertilized by two different sperm, genetic resemblance is same as siblings.
