Document Summary

Psyc 203 chp 8- experimental design: factorial designs. Note: i marked info not covered in the lecture slides as ** Factorial design: experimental design with more than 1 independent variable. Factor means the same thing as independent variable. I will be using the term factor, instead of independent variable from. Factorial designs usually involve 2/3 factors, although it is possible to have an unlimited number. Numbering/notation system: identifies the # factors and the levels of each variable at the same time. The number of digits=the # of factors ex: a 2 x 3 factorial has 2 factors. The numerical value of the digit = the # of levels. Ex: a 2 x 3 factorial has 2 levels in the first factor, 3 levels in the second. Total # of cells/boxes in the factorial matrix (see below)=all the possible conditions. Count the number of boxes in the matrix, or multiply the numbers in the notation system.
