Critical thinking: ability to evaluate scientific claims by identifying potential omissions or weakness in the evidence. Inadequate postoperative evaluation of human patients incontinence: staff/health workers said patients were well behaved, easy to deal with, largely discontinued, after 40 000 lobotomies, performed on troubled patients ex. In this lecture: how thinking about the biology of behaviour changed, evolution, fundamental genetics, epigenetics, psychology of genetics. Dichotomy: a division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different (separate/binary). False dichotomy: an apparent dichotomy between two things not completely different- makes us stop looking for other answers/reasons. Monism: belief that the mind is not separate from the brain. Problems with thinking about behaviour in terms of traditional dichotomies: problem 1: brain damage impacts psychological functioning, e(cid:454). Imprinting, language: animals have specific information that they learn quickly.
