Document Summary
Examine nt systems in detail: glutamate, dopamine. Psychopharmacology o o o o o o o o o o. Study of behaviour (psycho) in response to a drug (pharmacology) Typically studies are conducted on rats/rodents; mainly due to being inexpensive. Intravenously infusion of liquid substances directly into a vein; ex. Subcutaneously injection directly into subcutaneous layer of the skin; below the dermis and epidermis. Intra-peritineally injection of a substance into the peritoneum (body cavity) Intra-muscular injection of substance directly into a muscle. Intrathecal injection of substances directly into the spinal canal; into the subarachnoid space in order to reach the cerebrospinal fluid. The route of administration determines efficacy & time course. Drugs won"t cross the blood brain barrier; instead injected into the ventricles or spinal cord; cannula can be placed directly into region of interest. Cannula metal tube for insertion of substances into the body; remains in skin to avoid/prevent continuous penetration; usually done in cases where multiple injections are required.
