PSYC 351 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: State Space, Structural Dynamics, Word Game
Document Summary
March 23rd state space analysis of emotion and flexibility in parent child interactions. Neg emot states can narrow range of congiive and bhvrl responses to envrmntl demands. Research focus on effect of emots on the flex of cog performance of isolated aspects of social bhvr in high controlled experimental conditions, and extended into naturalistic settings. Stressed couples heading for divorce and parent-child dyads w externalizing children shown to have more rigid (less flexible) bhvr. Current study = mothers/daughters in early adols; impact of conflict and stress on emot tone and flex of dyad. Pos emot reduces preservation while neg emot states reduce tendency to give up unsuccessful cog strategies. Link bw ne gemot and reduced flex in interpersonal bhvr. This is seen in distressed couples they share more neg emot, cant flexibky emerg from neg dyadic states. Only looks at being stuck in states, not effects on interpersonal relations.
