Psychoacive drugs- drugs that inluence subjecive experience by acing on the nervous system. 4 routes of exposure to drugs: injecions, oral, inhalaion and dermal. Each route can have various rates of administraion. Oral: absorpion can occur in the stomach directly or in the intesines. Advantages of oral intake are the ease and safety. The only disadvantage is that it is unpredictable the absorpion when the drug reached the stomach because many factors can inluence the rate of absorpion. Inhalaion: fast absorpion through capillary beds in lungs, but dose is unpredictable. Blood brain barrier prevents drugs from crossing in. Drug metabolism: liver enzymes simulate the conversion of acive drugs to non- acive forms. Drug tolerance: a shit in the dose-response curve. Cross tolerance: one drug creaing tolerance of other drugs that work by the same mechanism. Drug tolerance can develop but this does not mean all efects of the drug become tolerant.
