Measurement and quantification are an integral part of the development of modern psychology. How these continue to be important in the field: objectivity, dsm moving to continuum model, psychometrics, understanding of constructs within psychology parsing apart what simply overlaps, what ideas are combined, and which do not overlap. Advantages: allows psychology to be a science, no longer philosophy and introspection, following of scientific method, allows cross-discipline investigations, bridge between mental processes, behaviours and statistics, deep thinking about what makes a construct.
