At each of the seven gates of the underworld, she loses a piece of regalia (symbol of divine power) Powerless, she is reduced to the status of a corpse by her fierce sister, Enki/ea comes up with a strategy to rescue ishtar: sumerian strategy: enki sends down a male prostitute to distract. Ereshkigal is persuaded to give the corpse of ishtar on condition she find a substitute. Ishtar revived returns to the upper world, where she finds that alone of all creation her consort dumuzi (king) did not mourn for her.
