Other issues that divide qualitative and quantitative methods: behaviour vs. meaning. Use of both inductive and deductive logic. Use of both subjective and objective points of view. Values play a large role in interpretation. There may be causal linkages that may never be completely determined. The integration of qualitative and quantitative data provides us richer understanding. Could happen in different stages: collection of data or analyzing data. By combing methods we can compensate for the diversity and to get over the imperfections. Expansion: add breath and scope to project. Rich text, images, narrative and meaning to numbers. Grounded theory can be both generated and tested in one study. Strength of one approach can offset the weakness of another (complementarity). A more complete picture of social life can be revealed. It does not guarantee better quality research or data. It can require more time/resources researcher must be versatile and possess expertise in multiple methods.
