A country surrounded by desert that receives little rain, so nile is primary source of water. Irrigation was only possible where you can bring water. Every year there is a renewal of the soil, so the flooding could reach all the way up to the giza plateau. The only personification of the nile (hapy) is when there is the flood. Nile was main transportational highway going north with the current, and if you wanted to go south, you would unfurl your sail. When it did rain, they called it nile in the sky . North is mediterranean sea, which would protect from influences (as a barricade) but also would serve as a path for influences as well (through export/import) Eastern desert is mountainous and treacherous, but it was very resources (for gem materials, metals, stone) it was also a gateway to the red sea. Western desert- sahara, flat and dry, but it was huge.
