ACS 400 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Wage Labour, Intrepidity, Conspicuous Consumption
Document Summary
Karl marx: commodities and money: the fetishism of commodities and the secret thereof. Commodity= a raw material that can be bought or sold (gold, oil, water, cofee) a useful thing. Man changes the forms of nature, to ways in which are useful to him. Example: wood turn into a commodity by changing its originated form . a table. If there is labour put into a commodity it must mean that it is an object of interest to mankind. If men in any way work for one another, their labour assumes a social form. The asocial contract is not between two people but between the products of their labour. Therefore: being useful becomes a commodities, only because they are products of the labour of private individuals or groups who work independently of one another. Producers only have social contact with one another when exchanging products, neither see each others labour process. Another form of division of labour, between the servant classes.
