Document Summary

1/ we deal with isotonic fluids fluids which do not have an osmotic gradient. Our sweat has a certain number of ions associated with it. A lot of he sports drinks are iso or hypotonic to allow rehydration. 3/ * know this slide* water is 60% body weight. When you gain or lose weight its water weight . Extracellular fluid ( interstial fluid surrounding organs & cells) adds up to aprox. 15l further broken down to plasma and intestinal fluids. Vast majority of fluid in body is intracellular fluid 25l what is this? inside cells. Squeezing out water from every cell in body, yields 25l. Can study equilibrium b/t plasma interstitial fluid intracellular fluid. Non-electrolytes are organic ( glucose, lipids, creatine etc) don"t dissociate just held in suspension in water. Electrolytes- dissociate into different ions we have a lot more of these. We have more sodium ions than glucose this creates the osmotic power.
