Theory of evolution by natural selection darwin & wallace. Darwin"s book: on the origin of species by means of natural selection. Scientific theories have two components pattern & process. Pattern: a series of observations (facts) about the natural world regarding facts how things are in nature all species are related and change throughout time. Process: a mechanism that produces (explains) the pattern or set of observations. Pattern component of special creation (god) hold that: all species are unrelated & independent, life on earth is young perhaps just 6000 years old, species are incapable of change imputable. Points to creation of species by a supernatural being. A scientific revolution overturns an existing idea about how nature works & replaces it with another, radically different idea. Darwin & wallace overturned the idea that species were specially created by saying they are naturally created by evolutionary means. Plato claimed special creation & organisms do not change over time.
