BUS 221 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Critical Thinking
Document Summary
Business needs reliable facts in order to make good decisions. Critical thinking is important in all aspects of life. Business decisions: hard decisions mean asking hard questions, good decisions based on good understanding, you must know the facts. Knowing something does not guarantee 100% truth. Reasonable to believe: we cannot evaluate beliefs as they are only stuck in one"s brain until it is said. Statements that are put forward that are capable, in theory, of being either true or false. A triangle has 3 sides. (stated as a claim although it is always true) To believe a claim is to accept it. As a reason for action (new product being a good idea) As a premise in an argument (claims to support an argument) You can either believe a claim flat out or you can have a certain degree of confidence in it: not claims. Not statements about what is the case.
