Document Summary
All material you encounter is made up of matter. Anything that has mass/occupies space is called matter. Matter is stuff that makes up small things. Too small to see for the human eye. Three phases: solid (s), liquid (l), gas (g) Mass is a measurement of the amount of matter in an object. E. g. dropping a bowling ball vs. a feather. Weight is a measurement of the gravitational force acting on an object. Which weighs more tonne of feathers or tonne of bricks a: feathers. Another physical property of a substance the amount of mass per unit volume. Density is temperature sensitive e. g. , the density of water at room temperature (25oc) is 1 g/ml. E. g. , if a sheet of paper is cut in half no change in composition; but if it is burned the composition of the paper does change. Physical change: changes matter without changing composition (something is made already).
