We would rather watch the readings than read it. Talked more about the social effects of technology. Letters do not have meaning in themselves, we give them meaning. Takes the experience of the world away because we makes sense of words as a sort of order. We use aspects like time and order to understand our surroundings. Text gives us tools in which to order the world, we are just ordering the world that way through language. There are other ways of using the world and if we strictly use text we lose out on other things. The other five senses touch, smell, hearing . The emergence of digital media creates other ways of knowing other than text. Phone where you click on random buttons to figure out what it does. We"re using pictures and icons/symbols to navigate. Free people are harmonious and balance the senses. Western tech is about the eye and linearity, monoculture.
