Quote: for generations text has been a main mode. Kind like bolding a word on a page. Our eye"s focus on the most salient and then travels down. Mutli images, sound, text that all trying to convey a message. Different modes that come together to send an message. Different modes may reinforce each other, compliment each other, supplementary. Where do you put image and text and what does that say about the message. Time linked to space: how material is linked on the page is experienced by time. How they interact with one each other. You have to leave something so that the reader can step into and become part of the message. The image needs to say something and so does the text. What to include and what to leave outside. Image: commentary on what the media says about society and the power of the media.
