Music industry is different from other industries in that revenue is not solely generate from one source. Successful artists are able to generate income via multiple streams. Hired guns: session work, touring work, producers. If the artist isn"t earning, either is the manager. Artist manager is a commission based job. Rate negotiated between artist and manager and is defined in their partnership agreement. Sometimes different types of income may be commissioned at different rates. Decisions = financial gain vs. maintaining and furthering brand integrity. Establishes how the business will operate and what actions will be taken if certain situations present themselves. Explicitly outlines all detail, nuance, procedure for any foreseen business scenario. Legal language is dense, complex, and often overwhelming. Many have found themselves in awful situations by signing contracts they didn"t understand. It is always advised in the music industry to have an entertainment lawyer review an agreement before signing.
