Artists contributing to cultural flows vs inventing original, proprietary creations. No such thing as an original idea; only contribute. Goods which are non rivalrous, and are non-exclusive (ex. air) Thus, creations of the mind are public goods. Intellectual property does not control idea, it controls the way the idea is communicated. New inventions or any new and useful improvement of an existing invention. Novel: must be new, first in the world. Inventive: must show ingenuity and must not be obvious to someone of average skill in the field of invention. A composition (ex. a chemical composition in lubricants for door locks) An apparatus (ex. a machine for making door locks) A process (ex. a method for making door locks)
