Establish control of specific land/resources (aboriginal title) Establish entitlement to engage is specific activities, often with economic and/or political implications. Do not come from a treaty or document. To the extent that there are aboriginal rights to land, to what extent are those rights similar to. Are able to take some rights out, combine them, but fundamentally have a bundle of rights. Contingent rights: rights that exist because a government grants/recognizes them. Government created the rights, the government can take it away. Inherent rights: rights that just exist they don"t need to be created by a government and they exist whether or not the government recognizes them. Government does not need to recognize them, they are already there. In the past, people will say god created them. There are some rights even if the government doesn"t recognize them.
