Common law: early english law that was developed by judges and incorporated. Anglo-saxon tribal custom, feudal rules and practices, and the everyday rules of behaviour of local villages. Common law became the standardized law of the land in england and eventually formed the basis of criminal law in canada. Common law is a system of judge-made law based on precedent. Criminal law in canada (before 1867: uneven development of law enforcement, e. g hudson"s bay company, circuit judges, military, british common law source of law in canada. Constitution is the supreme source of law - the two below have to accord. Judge made common law: if a law violates the constitution or goes against the constitution, it can be struck down or overturned, judges are both interpreters of the law, and involved in the creation of the law. Case law creates precedent: international law un conventions terrorism, human trafficking.
