It includes the processes of making laws, of breaking laws, and of reacting to the breaking of laws. sutherland & cressey (1960) Assumes that criminologists take a scientific approach. Criminology is a social science that understands crime within society, can"t understand crime if we look at an action as well as the law. Attempts to explain why some people commit crimes. One of the jobs of the legal system is to provide an organized way to resolve conflicts. Laws help this, and also get the answers of some conflicts. Reason why we have police, etc. to maintain law and order. Law enforces rules we have in community and provide consequences when they are not followed. Law causes society to change and social change influences law. Nullen crimen sine lege (no crime without law)
