As sited in foucault, ie. the time of the rack and other torture devices, a time of obsession with physical abuse of deviants. it was at this point in time that old political and religious doctrines explained evil behaviour as a direct result of demonology ; the devil made me do it . From the perspective of ancient peoples, demons, magic and spirits worked in mysterious ways in influencing behaviour.
