Document Summary

Sexual abuse: extends to using a child for the sexual gratification of the offender; exposing the child to sexual contact, activity or behaviour. Can be encouraging the act does not need to be involved. Some young children do not know it is wrong: ex: manipulated or forced to show love to someone (wanted close contact) Forms of sexual abuse: oral, anal, genital contact, anal/vaginal penetration, fondling, sexual stimulation, exploitation, exposure to pornography. Usually contextualized in intra-familial or extra-familial frameworks: committed either by a perpetrator within or outside of the victim"s familial network. Irrespective of familial connection, the majority of abusers in child sex cases are male. Cis 2008 reports that sexual abuse accounted for 2,607 or 3% of substantiated cases. Just child sexual abuse = not a lot: percentage is low and inaccurate. May not be reported because they may not know it should be reported or ashamed to.
