CYC 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Organizational Commitment, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Psychosomatic Medicine
Document Summary
Be aware of your limitations as well as theirs. Knowing where the line is before crossing it. Cyc"s rely on use of self to form relationships & guide interventions. Listening to & being exposed to traumatic content impacts self & security. But only recently has there been efforts to deal with such challenges to support professionals. Secondary trauma: not living the experience myself, but hearing about it or seeing pictures of it. Cyc- net: the child care worker and occupational stress. Occupational stress refers here to workers" physiological and psychological responses to situations perceived as potentially disruptive and which may be either desirable or undesirable. The burn-out syndrome is an extreme response to occupational pressure. Its primarily an experience of exhaustion resulting from excessive demands on the worker"s energy and resources accompanied by a dehumanisation of the caring progress. Agency attitudes and policies contribute to stress experience by workers.
