There are signs that lead you to suspect that a child has been or may be at risk of being abused. They do (cid:374)ot pro(cid:448)e that a (cid:272)hild is a(cid:271)used they are pote(cid:374)tial (cid:449)ar(cid:374)i(cid:374)g sig(cid:374)s that the child may need help. They are sometimes visible such as marks or bruises or symptoms of poor health or behavioural patterns or changes. These are things you see or experience personally. If you are told something by someone else this is second hand information and therefore not observed by you. In the context of child abuse and neglect, it is important to document using professional standards. These should not include judgements or diagnosis or conclusions, rather they should paint a picture of what was seen, heard and experienced. It is important to understand that any recordings you make regarding potential abuse could be part of court proceeding and therefore the recordings should be completed with the highest professional standards.
