Chapter 19 counseling children with special concerns. Practitioners who work with children are likely to encounter a child who has been subjected to maltreatment. Child maltreatment is a general terms for four primary acts: 03/28/17: physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, emotional abuse. One or more parents were the cause of 80% of the abuse-and-neglect related deaths of children. A growing menace in the maltreatment of children occurs with online relationships in which minors are enticed, invited, or persuaded to meet for sexual acts. Child abuse occurs at all levels of social, economic, and educational status in all countries. Currently it is believed that the origin of child abuse are understood as the interaction variables of the child, the family, and community. Children are never responsible for the maltreatment that is inflicted on them. Some child characteristics such as having disabilities significantly correlate with an increased risk for abuse or neglect.
