Phase 2: survivor phase - rights, self-determination, and empowerment (mid 70s-mid 80s) People started calling themselves psychiatric survivors (mid-70s officially) Became separatist groups, trying to provide alternative, community- Only identify with their professional terminology to get treatment, based social supports. Felt like psychiatrists didn"t listen to them. Reject notion that they are mentally ill. Getting to choose what they are advocating for.
