Social model of disability: disability is the restriction of individual performance as a result of the interaction between an individual and their environment. The remedy for disability-related problems is cure or normalization of the individual. Disability arises from interactions between the individual and society. The remedy for disability-related problems is a change in the interactions between the individual and society. The agent of remedy is the professional who affects the arrangements between the individual and society. Three imperatives that underwood (2013) highlights as critical to creating successful inclusive learning environments are as follows: Universal design: programs is designed to meet the needs of all children and families, redesign overall program to meet all needs possible, address a larger group at one time. Creating time to work with the children. Planning is individualized and the goal of participation is explicit.
