Long strips of wood laid down onto the structure. A lot more work; must be nailed down separately. Made out of red wood or cedar. Less prone to wood rot and mould growth. In 2003, massive wildfire in bc (homes burnt, wall of flame , isolated homes too, most of the houses that were isolated that burned had roofs made of wooden shingles) Has a long life expectancy (20-30 years) Critical feature: space has to be ventilated and dried out. Improper ventilation can reduce the life expectancy by 10 years. You can place a layer of asphalt shingles on top. To prevent moss and stuff like that you can put a sheet of metal like zinc (copper inhibits mould and moss and fungus but it oxidized and turns green) Termites on wooden roofs can be a problem. Used to be a high quality product. Made out of portland cement and asbestos fiber.
