Cotton: produces ash where edge of burning is taking place. Silk or wool: very distinct dour (smalls like burning hair) Things to ask when conducting the burn test: how the fibre reacts when near flames, how fibre react in fame, how the fibre reacts when removed from flame, the ash residue, odor that burned fiber releases. Protein: very dark, black, and crushable, unpleasant smell. Acetate: when removed from flame, fibers continue to burn, burnt. Des[ite the same fiber content, flannelette and denim burn quite differently. Come in series of shades and colours. Naturally coloured cotton actually gets deeper and richer when washing. Put in chemical mixture which is liquid, pushed through circular disk that has variety of holes in it. Pg 236 comparison char (spun/smooth & textured yarns) Amount of twist appearance: size, diameter, uniformity behavior, absorbency, comfort, elasticity durability, strength, abrasion resistance. Nep: small knot of entangled fibre, a thick spot on the yarn.
